Geisinger, an integrated health system headquartered in Danville, Pennsylvania, invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Health Services Research (DEHSR). Appointment may be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at Geisinger. Geisinger seeks a creative and visionary Chair who will work within the growing enterprise, including a new medical school, to align and leverage extensive research, education, and practice resources and expertise within the health system, its medical school, and the larger region.
The ideal candidate will have doctoral education with extensive experience in epidemiology and a record of success with securing extramural research funding from federal and non-federal agencies such as NIH, CDC, AHRQ and PCORI. Candidates should have strong methodologic skills, particularly in epidemiology, but also preferably in biostatistics, population health research, health services research or pragmatic clinical trials. In this way, the Chair will be able to guide, advise, and mentor a diverse faculty of researchers in extramurally-funded research across these various disciplines. The Chair will also be expected to develop new programs and relationships with the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, with a main campus in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Because of the administrative responsibilities, this position will have internal funding support.
Geisinger is an exciting and rich environment for research, education, and practice. Opportunities include extensive resources for research; education (including a developing MPH program); training (graduate medical education); Springboard Healthy Scranton, a novel effort in community health; and innovative approaches to precision medicine and precision population health.
Geisinger has unparalleled resources for research. These include a system-wide electronic health record, in place since 1996; system-wide biobanking; extensive genetic data (whole exome sequencing and genotype data); data warehousing and translational research; a stable regional population in over 45 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; and the Geisinger Health Plan, which allows the additional use of claims data for research. Geisinger’s research activities are currently organized in three primary departments, including DEHSR, and 12 centers, programs, and institutes, including those focused on environmental health, genomics/precision health, obesity, cancer, and autism. System-wide, research brought more than $50M in extramural funding in the current fiscal year.
Interested applicants should send a personal statement and curriculum vitae to DEHSR Search Committee c/o Grace Lowrygblowry@geisinger.edu. Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
