This position is for a Per-Diem Endoscopy/GI Lab RN. Work commitments include the assignment of 1-2 day shifts per two week pay period, and assignment of occasional evening/weekend on-call shifts.
Performance Expectations: Under general supervision, the Endoscopy/GI Lab RN provides professional nursing care to patients in accordance with individual patient needs, physician's orders, hospital policy, and standards of nursing practice. Demonstrates effective communication skills with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team. Maintains established departmental/hospital policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, regulatory compliance, Nurse Practice Act, and Patient Bill of Rights. Applies clinical knowledge and expertise for coordinating patient care by regularly planning and evaluating the care of procedural patients. Coordinates plan of care with other members of the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired goals and outcomes. Accurately documents nursing assessments, physician, and ancillary interventions that reflect the care provided to the patient inthe GI Department. Understands physiologic effects of moderate sedation and is able to evaluate patients for appropriate reactions and recovery. Able to maintain adequate airway of patients, recognize compromised air exchange and initiate immediate corrective action. Able to interpret EKGs, identify arrhythmias, and initiate corrective action as needed. Assesses, monitors, and documents patient’s pre and post procedure condition, including level of consciousness and procedural site, and communicates any abnormalities or changes to patients and/or physicians.
Education requirements: Current state of California RN License, Current BLS, ACLS, PALS Certifications (PALS if cross-training to other peri-operative departments). Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel functions. Experience requirements: Minimum of one year professional nursing experience is preferred.
