RN-PACU

The University of Minnesota Medical Center East Bank location offers the widest range of hospital and clinical services provided through the Fairview Health System. Complete services range from primary care, emergency care and to care of patients with the most complex conditions. Areas of specialization include solid organ (heart, kidney, lung, liver, and pancreas) and blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease and cancer.

Perianesthesia Department, three phases of care:

• pre & post has 22 beds providing care for same day surgery patients, inpatients and surgical admits
• Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) has 21 beds and cares for 30-50 patients/day

The scope of practice extends from a patients entry into preoperative care unit and continues through recovery. Start times vary with the earliest being 5am and the latest being 3pm. This position does have off site on call requirements. The weekend requirement is on-call every 6th weekend 12 hour day/night rotating and one weekday night (10:30p-6:30a) per month.

• Provides pre and post anesthesia care to patients undergoing invasive procedures requiring anesthesia
• Assesses/Documents patients according to patient condition and Perioperative Policy
• Utilizes Perioperative Services plan of care
• Evaluates care, adapts interventions and prioritizes care based on patient assessment

Required:

• MN RN Licensure
• 2 or more years nursing experience in Perianesthesia, PACU, or ICU RN with at least 2 years' experience in hospital based high acuity nursing units (such as Emergency Room, Surgical, Transplant, Intermediate Care/Step Down units) may also be considered.
• Basic Life Support Certification through Health Care Providers

Preferred:

• ACLS and PALS Certification
