This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The Physician is directly accountable to the section chief of gastroenterology. In the Medical Service which is composed of the following sections: Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary, Rheumatology, Hematology, Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Special Exams, Critical Care and Hospitalist Medicine. The physician will provide inpatient and outpatient consultations, evaluating clinic patients, and performing special procedures such as diagnostic EGD, snare polypectomy, variceal and non-variceal hemostasis, flexible sigmoidoscopy, liver biopsy, total colonoscopy, PEG, esophagealdilation with guidewire and paracentesis for optimal care. Responsibilities: The Physician assigned to Medical Service will be accountable for: Adhering to established Center policies and procedures and VA Directives. Demonstrating leadership, accomplishment and commitment when providing support to the Chief of Medicine, Medical Service and Medical Subspecialty Staff and assistance to representatives to various department/services within the VA organization. Implementing and complying with administrative review of the service's operations to assure compliance with all internal and external review requirements. Clinical management of patients may include skills necessary for the stabilization of acute complications and may include the initiation of basic life support. Patient education is primarily provided in an interactive setting which requires good interpersonal skills. Under the direction of the Chief of Medicine shall be accountable for all clinical duties and assignments that he/she deems necessary. The incumbent may also be assigned to perform other clinical duties as assigned within the service. Work Schedule: The typical schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 800am to 4:30pm, some on call duty may be required.
