Excellent opportunity for a full-time Pediatric Neurologist to join Coastal Children’s Services (CCS) to provide care to infants and children (newborn to 18 years old) in communities throughout southeastern North Carolina. CCS is a growing pediatric subspecialty practice located in the coastal city of Wilmington. This position offers the potential for a clinical academic appointment through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Opportunities for clinical research are also available for those who are interested. This position is primarily based at the Autumn Hall campus of the Nunnelee Pediatric Specialty Clinics of New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s (NHRMC) Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The Pediatric Neurologist also provides inpatient consultations at the main hospital campus. Additional satellite clinics may also be planned to serve children in surrounding rural communities as needed. Candidates must be board eligible/certified in pediatric neurology, with preference given to individuals with sleep study interpretation experience. In addition to the outpatient pediatric clinic, NHRMC also has a 17-bed general pediatrics inpatient unit, a 6-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a 45-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a Newborn Observation Unit. The inpatient pediatric team, consisting of six (6) hospitalists, three (3) intensivists and four (4) nurse practitioners, provides continuous inpatient coverage and also supports pediatric neurology service line patients. A team of six (6) neonatologists and twenty-two (22) neonatal nurse practitioners cover in the NICU at NHRMC and several outlying hospitals throughout the region. In addition to pediatric neurology, CCS outpatient specialties include cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, pulmonology and genetics. Additional pediatric services offered locally through NHRMC and UNC include surgery, cleft palate, infusion, urology, oncology and hematology. With a current metro area population of 125,000, Wilmington is a growing coastal community in North Carolina that was recently ranked as the number one city to relocate to in the United States (read article here). Residents enjoy a mild climate while living and working where most people vacation. Year-round boating, golf, fishing, tennis, biking and other water sports are available. Outstanding restaurants combined with an active music and cultural arts community contribute to a vibrant downtown atmosphere. The Wilmington Riverwalk is currently ranked in second place in USA Today’s “Best Riverwalk’s”. Collegiate opportunities include Cape Fear Community College and the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Local popular beaches include Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach with Myrtle Beach just a short drive south. The growing Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is convenient allowing for easy travel to many domestic and international destinations.
