The incumbent in this position operates and monitors routinely used equipment somewhat independently and with normal supervision performing routine less complex diagnostic radiology examinations. This Technologist would refer to a supervisor when doing more complex radiologic examinations some performed with and without the use of contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies so that proper diagnosis and treatment may be effectuated. Other duties include, but are not limited to the following: Performs all manner of radiographic examinations. Prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystogram, cholangiograms fistulagrams and arthrography and for the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the GI tract. Maintains effective control of Radiology area by coordinating, planning, organizing and executing the daily work potential to expedite workflow patterns within the departments. Troubleshoots equipment used in diagnostic radiologic procedures and is able to make minor repairs and/or adjustments. Performs all darkroom procedures such as loading and unloading cassettes and grids, operating film processor to assure adequate and properly processed radiographs. Responsible for explaining exams to competent patients in terms the patient will comprehend as well as understanding potential hazards that may occur as a result of the exam.
