Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) Section of Gastroenterology is actively recruiting a clinical hepatologist at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.The ideal candidate will be Board Certified/Eligible in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology. New graduates as well as experienced hepatologists will be considered to join an established hepatology program based at University Medical Center (UMC). This program includes dedicated clinic space and nursing staff coordinated within a newly-constructed medical center which possesses a full complement of subspecialties such as interventional radiologists, medical oncologist and hepatobiliary surgeons. The UMC hepatology service includes a hepatology physician assistant and is combined with physicians representing both LSUHSC and Tulane School of Medicine.
This position is structured as a clinical academic position for providing care in three settings including outpatient clinic, outpatient endoscopy and inpatient hepatology consult rounds. The candidate is expected to participate in liver transplant selection committee, hepatobiliary conference and other subspecialty activities conducted at University Medical Center in collaboration with providers representing LSU and Tulane Hepatology. The majority of clinical time will be conducted with gastroenterology fellows as fellowship education is a important component of the candidate's role as faculty.
Faculty members of the LSU Gastroenterology Section are assigned one (1) half-day per week of protected time for academic pursuits. Our section provides support for all educational activities such as society memberships, lecture materials and travel to meetings. On-call activity is limited to combined gastroenterology/hepatology call which occurs every 12th weeknight/weekend (only 4 call weekends each year).
