The Medical Instrument Technician in Diagnostic Ultrasound performs work independently in support of diagnostic imaging with limited oversight by a radiologist or other specialist. Performs ultrasound imaging studies to diagnose, treat, and manage various disorders and conditions that require specialized knowledge and skills Routinely performs and evaluates the following studies independent of supervisory or physician input. Makes decisions on data and methodology to obtain necessary results in conformance with standard procedures. Uses independent judgment and systemic problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic data to optimize patient care. Critiques patient studies for the necessity of additional images, and reviews clinical data during the study. Advises radiologists or refering physician of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing examination. Performs routine clerical procedures for the purpose of maintaining accurate ultrasound records so that easy recall of patient's examinations may be achieved. This requires making entries into Vista/CPRS and PACS. Obtains a complete history of the patients by reviewing CPRS record, previous CT, MRI, X-rays, ultrasounds, and consulting with the patient. Must verify that clinical history and patient preparation correlates with the exam in order to prevent unnecessary acoustic energy. Provides appropriate patient care throughout the procedures. This include proper patient identification, explanations of procedures, allaying of fears, maintenance of IV and oxygen lines, recognition of emergency conditions, determination of vital signs, and administering CPR and assisting physician with ACLS when necessary. Creates and maintains a sterile environment as part of the team perfo1ming thyroid biopsy, liver tumor ablation therapy, and thora/paracentesis. Accurately localizes sites for biopsy within the spatial orientation of ultrasonography and communicate this to the physician performing the biopsy. Assist in the development of patient's education materials and protocols for new procedures in cooperation with physicians. Incorporate Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements into daily functions and overall practice of laboratory. Preferred experience: "This position is for a MIT Ultrasound Technologist who can perform all types of Ultrasound exams including , Pelvic studies (GYN) and all types of Vascular studies.
