The incumbent practices as an LPN within the Subspecialty outpatient clinics. These clinics include Orthopedics, General surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Dermatology Minor Surgery, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Vascular Surgery, Urology, PAT, GI, Dermatology and Immunologic and preventive medicine. The clinics evaluate and treat a variety of acute and chronic medical, surgical, and psychological conditions. The LPN is accountable for clinical responsibilities, which include the proper intake and exit of the veteran at clinic visit, meeting of educational and psychosocial assessment and needs, procedural assisting and appropriate triaging of telephone calls, walk-ins and unstable veterans. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Prepares and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures. Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments, promptly and accurately documenting noted changes and reports any deviations from normal. Support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure. Provides teaching, such as medications and equipment/special instructions, to patients/residents and their families. Records in the medical record nursing care, observations, procedures, vital signs, treatments and medications. Delivers nursing care according to the principles of Patient Centered Care. Treats all patients/residents, families, and co-workers with respect. Provides care that meets/exceeds veteran expectations. Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
