This Registered Nurse position is located in GI Department of Surgical Service at the VA Providence HCS. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Include but are not limited to: Optimize clinic workflow. This involves patient scheduling, scheduling, and tracking of test results and scheduling OR surgical procedures/cases. Collaborate with the clinic NPs and orthopedic surgeons. Assessment of care for scheduled veterans, including follow-up when necessary. Patient education for veterans/families undergoing surgical procedures. Telephone triage of patient sick calls as needed and follow up post procedure calls. Referral of VNA cases (when indicated) to the clinic's specialty Case Managers. Serve as the liaison between staff/providers and the Surgical Chief or designee. Critical thinking and problem-solving involving providers and staff to assure positive outcomes for the veteran. Learn all aspects of surgical clinic operations with a concentration on orthopedic services. Responsible for the oversight of practice and compliance with JC and IG regulations and requirements in conjunction with the Surgical Chief or designee. Review clinic profiles and collaborating with Orthopedic NPs. Responsible for Standing Operating Procedure development and ongoing competencies for service. Precept other staff to Orthopedic service along with assisting providers in the instruction of new residents in the use of CPRS, IMED, consults and various clinic and hospital protocols. Collaborate by integrating Surgical Services from the outpatient clinic setting to the operating room through OR scheduling and post-operative outpatient care. Collaborate with NPs and Providers to determine appropriate alternatives to face to face visits versus VVC/telephone. Oversee RME standards and SOPs for the Orthopedic service. Work Schedule: The work schedule will be determined based on the needs of the Service. The VA Providence HCS is an acute care facility operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week. While most tours of duty are scheduled during the day, the possibility of working evenings, nights and weekends does exist. Shift changes will be considered based on patient and facility needs. This position is in the Excepted Service. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will recommend the grade and salary for new appointments based on the candidate's education and experience. For internal selectees being promoted, the board will determine grade and HR will determine step in accordance with policy.
