This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The Perioperative Nurse Manager executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience and creative approaches to management of complex patient care in the operations of the Operating Room, GI Endoscopy suites and interventional Pain Management Program. The incumbent is accountable for the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health staff for an assigned area on a 24-hour basis. The Nurse Manager is also responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of nursing standards. As an interdisciplinary leader, the incumbent Nurse Manager will use appropriate consultation with experts of each discipline he/she supervises to ensure that practice and performance issues are addressed and resolved. Some responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Provide leadership in the application of the nursing process to patient care, organizational processes and/or systems improving outcomes at the program or service level. Demonstrate expertise in the development and implementation of nursing standards for the management of specific patient population. Offer expertise to peers and other health professionals regarding referrals of complex patient populations to appropriate levels of care within the medical center and community. Initiate interdisciplinary projects to improve organizational performance. Assume leadership role in developing Nursing Program philosophy, purpose, goals, and objectives for staff development programs that are congruent with Nursing Program philosophy and VA mission. Implement an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs for self and others. Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues. Coach colleagues in team building. Make sustained contributions to health care by sharing expertise in and/or external to the medical center. Manage program resources (financial, human, material, and informational) to facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care. Taking case assignment as circulating or Scrub nurse to fill staffing gaps.
