This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more The major duties of the Physician (Gastroenterologist) position include: - The applicant should be board certified/board eligible in gastroenterology. - Be able to manage common gastrointestinal patient's with such disorders as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer disease, diarrheal disorders, malabsorption disorders, and postsurgical complications. - Be able to manage common hepatic disorders such as alcoholic hepatitis, hepatitis A, B and C, fatty liver disease, compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, pre-transplant evaluation, hemochromatosis, and Wilson's disease. - Requirements also include supervising fellows, residents, and medical students in taking care of these disorders. - Be able to perform and supervise the general gastrointestinal procedures: Colonoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy Sigmoidoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy Upper endoscopy with biopsy, polypectomy, balloon and savory style dilation Esophageal dilation Familiarity with bipolar coagulation Familiarity with argon plasma coagulation Familiarity with variceal banding Video capsule endoscopy Abdominal paracentesis Procedures desirable but not required: Endoscopic mucosal resection Esophageal manometry/impedance studies Anorectal manometry Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography Endoscopic ultrasound Eligible Applicants: Must be a US Citizen Recently graduated from an accredited medical or osteopathic school and matched or pending a match into an accredited residency program in a VHA designated specialty. At least 2 years remaining in your VHA designated residency/fellowship. Owes any amount of principal or interest on a qualifying loan which was used to pay costs relating to a course of education or training which led to a MD/DO degree in medicine. Covered Costs: Tuition expenses; and all other reasonable expenses, including expenses for fees, books, equipment, and laboratory expenses, and reasonable living expenses. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm (Weekends/Holidays/Off-Tours as needed by the Service) (Full-time and part-time tours available) Recruitment/relocation incentives have been authorized for this position.
