Performs technical work in support of Diagnostic Radiology, MRI/CT under the direction of a Radiologist/physician. The incumbent will be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology, and must obtain ARRT certification in both modalities, CT and MRI unless grandfathered in. Must have worked in the modalities for more than 1 year at the previous level. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] English Language Proficiency. Grade Determinations for GS-10: Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience listed above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques, including concepts of accumulated dosage, dose monitoring, and genetic changes. Ability to utilize advanced imaging software that supports complex imaging programs and recognize changes in equipment and procedures that might result in increased exposures, and ability to recommend methods to prevent such exposures. Knowledge of basic physics including concepts of energy, electric power, magnetic fields, and properties of x-ray, to understand the operation of the equipment. Knowledge and skill in positioning of patients for a wide variety of highly complex imaging (CT, MRI, IR, ultrasound, mammography) studies. Must have knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography. ["This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2022. Acts in a professional, cooperative manner towards patients and staff and treats patients and visitors with courtesy and respect. The DRT assists house staff in use of PACS viewing stations and systems. Provides education to patients and their families on Imaging procedures. Maintain electronic records and files of patient exams and performs clerical and file room duties related to patient care. The DRT uses established business rules to enter administrative notes in the Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS) - includes clinic visits, IV removals. Reports supply shortages to supervisor, as well as equipment failure. In the absence of the supervisor, contacts Biomedical Engineering or the service vendor to arrange for service. Is responsible for recognizing and exhibiting good safety practices, complies with Medical Center policies and procedures; immediately reports observed safety infractions and unsafe working conditions; to report in a timely fashion work related illnesses and injury. Will ensure relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and others within the organization are consistently courteous and cooperative in nature, and overall contribute positively to the effective operation of the Imaging Service. Trains new general DRT employee's general DRT protocols, proper patient care, radiation safety, VA computer programs as they pertain to general DRT procedures and operation of the general Imaging equipment. Will learn new advancements in general Radiology procedures and protocols as they are brought forward to meet patient care needs. Images in three cross-sectional planes, axial, coronal, and sagittal. The DRT will daily activate the proper MR software programs, data processing, archival, and data transfer systems. Modifies coil selection, field of view, pixel size, and number of averages, to affect the image signal to noise ratio as needed. The DRT confers with the system engineers regarding software integration and adjustments of the operation of MRI and the patient monitoring equipment. The DRT prioritizes exams in a manner so as to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility for emergent cases and notifies the Radiologist of scans requiring their immediate attention. consults with Radiologists to determine requirement of non-standard exams. The Technologist determines technical factors, positioning, number and thickness of scans, etc. to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning. Performs exams utilizing surgical sterile techniques.
